Frequently Asked Questions
Our church was started in 1967 by a small group of Christian friends. The first services were held in homes of group members. By August of 1967 the church had grown to the point that meeting in homes was no longer an option and it began meeting at Layton Hall Elementary School (now known as Daniel’s Run Elementary.) In 1969, the church purchased the property where the current building is located. In 1981, the church began making plans to build a third building phase. The building was competed in 1984 and now houses our offices, KidZone and “Skylight Room.” In 2014 we completed interior renovations to our current worship center and foyer. In 2017, we celebrated 50 years together!
We recognize the importance of cooperating with other churches and denominational organizations. We are currently members of:
- The NorthStar Church Network: A network of 180 congregations in Northern Virginia representing a wide diversity of ethnic, language and cultural groups.
- The Virginia Baptist Convention: 1,420 churches that work together with the goal of evangelizing our state.
We also have strategic partnerships with the following local and international ministries and churches:
We baptize by immersion because we believe that was Jesus’ model of baptism. Baptism is not salvation. It is a symbol of the new life that Jesus brings about within believers. Children, youth and adults can all participate in this wonderful symbol of Christian faith. While we understand and respect traditions within the Christian Church that practice infant baptism, at Fairfax Circle Church we do not baptize infants. However, we do believe it is important to provide an opportunity for Christian parents to publicly dedicate themselves and their children to the Lord. Therefore, we frequently have children dedications during our worship services for that purpose.
We believe that the role of anyone in the church is based on their calling from God. We use the term SHAPE to talk about one’s Spiritual gifts, Heart (passions), Abilities, Personality, and Experiences. We believe that everyone should serve based on how God has shaped them to serve. As a result, Fairfax Circle Church does not place restrictions on the service of women in the church, leadership, teaching, or preaching. We currently have women serving as pastors, lay-leaders, teachers, on leadership teams and advisory councils.
Membership involves three steps:
- Commit to Jesus Christ and be baptized.
- Attend our Intro to Fairfax Circle class. This is a class that is taught two or three times a year. It’s a two hour seminar type class and will help you get to know us better.
- Sign a membership commitment. In our Intro to Fairfax Circle class, we discuss what a commitment to membership means and make commitment cards available. If you have attended our Intro class but did not fill out a membership commitment, you can contact us to request a card.
Fairfax Circle Church is a diverse congregation. We find our unity in our essential beliefs, our mission and in our core values. Therefore, we do not engage in supporting any particular political party and allow members personal liberty in political issues.
When you visit Fairfax Circle, you will not be put on the spot and we will not single you out or require you to give us any information. After the service, we will not come knocking on your door or fill up your inbox. We ask only that you allow us to be your host.
No. We do have an offering box accessible on the way in and out of our service and many people at Fairfax Circle give electronically throughout the week. We view financial giving as the responsibility of those who call Fairfax Circle Church their home. We don’t ask our guests to give financially.
